Frequent Buyer Program

Profile
This customized application was designed to bring efficiency and organization to a Frequent Buyer Program that keeps track of customer's purchases of certain brands of pet food, so that their 10th bag or 12th bag or whichever it may be for that brand, is free.

Many stores are burdened with the ever-expanding Frequent Buyer Programs that companies are offering. Keeping track of hundreds or thousands of customer's purchases, with varying brands of pet food, becomes a rather time consuming chore looking each one up.

Hardware
Introducing a computer system can sound very expensive, and overwhelming. However, three brand new computers were purchased for this project, for three stores, all Dell computers with flat screen monitors, and slim profile CPUs, (taking up less space around the counter), for $650.00 each, delivered. This is a very minimal investment, for the amount of return you will get from introducing a system that you can also add other applications to.

Project
The focus with this project was to make the program as simple as possible for employees to switch to a computer environment. (In a case where one isn't already present.) Switching to this type of environment can create a large learning curve, that requires a "training period", and period of "in-accuracy". The idea was to avoid this as much as possible. This was done by creating a system that gets the job done in very few steps. See the descriptions below and refer to the images to the right, as I explain how this customized application works.
  • (1)Main Screen is the starting page for any customer lookup. Whenever someone is finished using it, they return to this screen, so it's always ready to lookup a customer's card. With a large print text box, and no button, you simply enter the customer's phone number and hit "enter". You may also see a list of all cards from this page and "Add a Card" for new customers starting the program.

  • (2)Add a Card is where the employee creates a card for the customer. One card for each customer for each brand of pet food. Once they're in the system, there's no need to fill out a card, unless they add a new brand of pet food. Cards will simply fill, be redeemed, then re-used.

  • (3)Frequent Buyer Card is the actual card that shows a customer's purchases. Blackberry ApplicationThe employee has now got to the card in about 4 seconds, where as in the past, they would have to look up the customer's card alphabetically, in the correct accordion file, for that brand. Some customer's forget which brand they're feeding, which adds loads of time to the look-up process.

The card itself is also extremely easy-to-use. Simply select the size and product and click "Add". You can delete as well, if an error is made. Once the card is full, a link will appear, taking you to the "Redeeming" process. The customer can either redeem it when the card is filled or wait until next time.

  • (4)Administration is where the employees have complete control of the system. They can Add a Vendor, Add or Edit Products and most importantly see reports on redeemed cards.

  • (5)The Report is where with one click you can see any non-printed redemptions. Simply choose which ones you want to print. For example, the Representative from Nutro Products may be in the store, so you want to print the Nutro redemptions for him to take.

  • (6)The Print Page shows the redemptions you ticked that you want to print. This page is designed to print what you see. You simply hit "print" and click "Final Confirmation". Those printed redemptions are now in the history, and you have a hard copy to give to the pet food rep, to get compensated.

Conclusion
This is a system that can be integrated with very minimal costs and minimal training. Staff can cater to their customers more easily and without making the customer wait while they look up their information. Having a custom made application does not mean "expensive", it simply means you get an easy-to-use interface that is designed for your specific needs.
